What is a "Fair Share Fee Rescission Election"?

It is a secret ballot election conducted by PERB (Public Employee Relations Board) to rescind Agency Shop provisions.

Bargaining unit members can vote to rescind agency shop provisions governed by PERB. If agency shop were rescinded members would have a choice to become a full union member paying dues or not. Under Agency Shop, individuals who dissent to certain non-representational activities of the Local Union can only become Agency Fee Payers. By rescinding Agency Shop an open shop would be created where dissenting individuals could completely opt out of union membership and dues by choice.
